Testimonials

Katie is a genius and a wizard for neurodiverse kids. She is so good at understanding exactly what kids need, and is creative and flexible with strategies to help them make progress. Plus, she does this in a way that's fun and motivating for kids. My son looks forward to his tutoring sessions with her every week. As the leader of The Shadow Project, a non-profit dedicated to improving schools for kids who learn differently, I know she is making a huge difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities.  - Sharon Juenemann, M. Ed.

Both of my girls are much more confident in their writing. In the past, they didn't know how to get started when presented with a topic and would freeze which made the assignment more difficult. Now they're more able to jump in and start assignments right away. They better understand how to break questions down and how to outline the answer. They also know that they can always go back to edit writing and aren't as pressured by perfectionism on a first draft. These skills have also helped them provide more complete answers to multi-part questions in science and social studies.  Thank you so for taking things off of my plate and giving them writing skills that I couldn't. -Liane

Working with Katie has been just a really great experience for us. I feel confident that the ongoing tutoring especially with pandemic situation kept my 7th-grade son on course. I feel like if we hadn't received tutoring, his reading and writing would have suffered. My son's reading strategies have noticeably improved, and he is more self-invested in his learning.  - Monica

Katie is a wonderful teacher.  Katie gave my 6th grade daughter excellent instruction in Spanish.  What I appreciated most about Katie was her interest in my child as an individual, and her ability to customize the instruction to meet my daughter's needs.  My daughter grew very fond of her.  -Peggy

My three kids grew in their confidence as writers and also had fun.  They almost always looked forward to their tutoring session.  I don't have exact pre/post measures but it seems to me that they learned and grew in their skills.  You were able to connect with each one of my kids in unique ways, to the benefit of their learning.  I also appreciated your responsiveness when I reached out to request summaries or updates. - Kari

My daughter has grown to delight in writing, and I believe you are one of the reasons why.  Thank you for encouraging her and providing her with the tools to grow as a writer! -Stacia J

Thank you Katie for all your work with my teenager during a very challenging year.  I appreciated how you were open to trying new strategies and were able to "read" her during the session to see what would be most helpful on any given day. Your support helping her get started on assignments, organizing her time and priorities, and helping her to communicate with her teachers was invaluable. I really appreciated your great communication with me also.   - Diane

Katie helped my son with the AP English test prep process this last year. My son became more confident in his ability to write timed essays. He learned techniques on how to quickly analyze and compose his responses and include all of the necessary components in his writing pieces.  Katie always was encouraging, helpful, and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed working with her.  - Lena

In addition to working with students who have learning disabilities, I also offer support for those with ADHD and executive function difficulties. For those preparing for standardized tests like the SAT, I offer timed test practice and specialized coaching to boost your writing scores. I understand the importance of note-taking skills and can guide you on effective techniques to enhance your learning experience.

In addition to teaching composition the old-fashioned way, I also can strategically integrate the use of ChatGPT, a powerful AI tool.  For example, I can coach you in the ethical use of ChatGPT to enhance your thought process or use ChatGPT to generate targeted writing exercises that improve skills like editing or writing conclusions.  This combination of human expertise and AI assistance creates a dynamic learning environment tailored to your needs.
